HEAR NOW Program

What is HEAR NOW?
Hear Now, a division of Starkey Hearing Foundation, serves clients throughout the United States. This program, originally founded in 1988, joined Starkey Hearing Foundation in September 1999.

The Hear Now program believes that no person should struggle to communicate simply because they lack the financial resources to acquire the technology to help them hear. Accordingly, the staff and volunteers strive to continue a tradition of providing services for the hearing impaired.

The work of Hear Now is supported through contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations, and the professionals who contribute their services. Hear Now receives no government funding.

Hear Now associates can recommend likely candidates for Hear Now assistance. They also prescribe and fit hearing aids supplied by Hear Now to children and adults who qualify. Hear Now determines eligibility and provides the recommended devices. Associates waive their fitting fees, but not their evaluation fees, for approved clients.

Eligible devices and services include hearing aids and hearing aid fittings. They provide in-the-ear, in-the-canal, behind-the-ear, and body style hearing aids, but completely-in-the-canal hearing aids are not available.

Hear Now cannot provide funding for cochlear implants, speech and language therapy, assistive devices, TTY's, telecaptioning equipment, vibrotactile aids, electronic sound alerting equipment, or hearing animals.

Are there any costs?
Audiological criteria requires that the client must have a documented hearing loss severe enough to warrant the wearing of hearing aids. A current audiogram, no more than nine (9) months old, is needed with the application.

Financial assistance is based on the household income and assets, the number in the household, expenses and lack of financial resources. The program does not provide assistance if the applicant qualifies for funding through private insurance, government assistance or any other funding options.

Commitment to the application process and wearing the hearing aids are important. Therefore, the applicant is asked to pay a non refundable processing fee per hearing aid. The minimum fee helps each person receive the "Gift of Sound".
